Behind The Artist

Hi, I’m Olia Nychyporenko.
I’m an artist originally from Ukraine, now living in Calgary, Canada.
For most of my life, I admired people who created art — their courage, their honesty, their freedom. But I never gave myself permission to be one of them. I carried that quiet longing for years.
Everything began to shift after going through some of the hardest chapters of my life — loss, war, displacement, and deep personal healing. Therapy, self-work, and stillness helped me reconnect with something I had buried for so long: the simple, honest desire to create.
Since moving to Alberta, something in me softened again.
The nature here always evokes emotions I didn’t expect — the wide sky, the sun-drenched days, the quiet serenity, and the sense of spaciousness that settles into you without effort. Living here gently encourages you to grow, to change, and to follow what feels true.
My paintings explore the emotional experience of living in Western Canada — the openness, quiet strength, calm, and gentle spaciousness that Alberta creates within you.
Now, painting is where I come back to who I am.
My work is rooted in emotional abstraction, and each piece is a reflection of transformation, tenderness, and the quiet beauty of becoming yourself.
I believe that in my paintings, many people can find echoes of their own emotions — moments they’ve lived through, parts of themselves they may have forgotten or are still learning to love. And in that recognition, we realize we’re not so different. We already share something.
Through my art, I hope to offer a soft place where you can feel, breathe, and remember that your life — as it is — is worthy of being lived fully.
All my love,
Olia
